LAGOS, Nigeria — Nigerian actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele refuted a viral social media claim on Tuesday alleging that the director of her upcoming film died in a fatal accident.
Golden Info reports that Akindele responded to a post on X by a user identified as #GodfreyWis44495, denying the circulating rumour. She addressed the user directly regarding the false narrative.
“Your words shall return to you in Jesus name. You are looking for engagements Abi? God will give you!!!” Akindele said.
The initial post claimed the director was involved in a collision while travelling to the actress’s residence. The user attached an old video of Akindele crying during an Instagram Live session, falsely presenting it as a recent reaction to the casualty. The post further stated that she had spoken with the director two hours before the crash and was considering delaying her film’s release.
The incident occurred shortly after Akindele announced her new project, The Four: No One Fights Alone, on August 10. The film, which centres on friendship, motherhood, and resilience, is scheduled for a December 11, 2026 cinema release. FilmOne will handle the theatrical distribution for the movie.
The ensemble cast features Akindele alongside Bisola Aiyeola, Chioma Akpotha, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Timini Egbuson, Lateef Adedimeji, Ali Nuhu, and Uzor Arukwe.
In April 2026, reports has it that the filmmaker had to address a separate misleading video claiming she ignored Fuji musician Wasiu Pasuma at a public event. Akindele has not announced any changes to the December 11 release date for her upcoming movie.
