WASHINGTON, United States — Former United States President Barack Obama issued a statement on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, reacting to the Democratic Party‘s sweeping victory in the U.S. midterm elections, stating that the American electorate has expressed a desire for unity and leadership focused on practical solutions.
Golden Info reports that Barack Obama congratulated Democratic candidates across various regions via his official X account following the announcements of electoral results.
In his statement, Obama noted that voters rejected deepening political divisions in favor of collaborative governance.
“Tonight, the American people sent a clear message — they want a politics that brings people together rather than divides them, and leaders who offer concrete solutions to the challenges they face,” Obama said.
The former president attributed the electoral outcome to candidates who ran competitive campaigns in diverse districts, including constituencies previously viewed as challenging for the Democratic Party.
“These results were only possible because outstanding candidates stepped forward in every region of the country — including in areas once considered long shots,” Obama said.
Obama also expressed gratitude toward election workers and non-partisan staff, stating, “We also owe a debt of gratitude to the thousands of election officials and volunteers from both parties who helped ensure a smooth election and carried out one of the most essential functions of our democracy.”
Addressing the remaining duration of President Donald Trump‘s administration, Obama urged party members to utilize their legislative leverage effectively over the next two years.
“While this administration has another two years in office, our job now is to roll up our sleeves, make changes wherever we have the power to do so, prevent further damage, and lay the groundwork for the future,” Obama said.
The election results grant the Democratic Party increased influence over congressional procedures, budget negotiations, policy challenges, and oversight investigations involving the Trump administration.
