LONDON, United Kingdom — Arsenal signed Brazil international midfielder Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United on a long-term contract on Saturday, August 8, 2026.
Golden Info reports that Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta confirmed the transfer through an official club statement. Berta said, “With Bruno joining us, we are further strengthening the heart of our team. As we have all seen, Bruno can play as a defensive midfielder and as a box-to-box player.”
Berta added that the midfielder provides additional leadership and competition for the squad. “He combines quality with quantity, and has provided goals and assists for his team every year,” Berta said.
The 28-year-old player departs Newcastle after making nearly 200 appearances across four-and-a-half seasons. During his tenure, Guimaraes contributed to the club’s 2025 Carabao Cup victory and aided the team in securing UEFA Champions League qualification in two separate seasons. Prior to his move to the Premier League in January 2022, he spent two seasons with French side Lyon, joining them in January 2020 after beginning his professional career with Sao Paulo-based Audax in 2015 and moving to Athletico Paranaense two years later.
At the international level, Guimaraes holds 48 caps for the Brazilian national team, featuring in the FIFA World Cup and the Copa America, alongside winning a gold medal at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. The midfielder will wear the number 39 shirt, with the completion of the transfer remaining subject to standard regulatory processes.
