WASHINGTON, United States — United States President Donald Trump urged United Kingdom Prime Minister Andy Burnham on Wednesday to address illegal migration into the country.
Golden Info reports that Trump warned the issue is destroying the nation during an interview with the GB News broadcasting network. “He’s going to have to mention it because it’s killing your country,” Trump said.
Trump stated that migrants are arriving from multiple continents and categorized the arrivals as an invasion. “I know Starmer did very little about it, and they’re coming from all over the world,” Trump said. “They’re coming from Africa. They’re coming from South America. They’re coming from different parts of Asia. They’re invading Europe.” He added, “It’s an invasion, and the UK is a prime suspect.”
The comments followed the arrival of more than 500 migrants across the English Channel into Britain. According to GB News, people smugglers launched 11 small boats from several locations stretching from Belgium to the French port of Dieppe.
Home Office data indicated that 172 individuals crossed the channel on the Wednesday of Burnham’s first week in office. An additional 366 people arrived on Thursday in three boats, followed by 103 on Friday.
A spokesman for Downing Street addressed questions regarding the potential closure of asylum hotels under the new administration. “The work on that continues,” the spokesman said, adding there was “no change in that work that’s being carried out by the Home Secretary in her department”.
Trump previously advised Burnham to expand North Sea oil drilling to boost the economy. The United Kingdom government continues to allow United States forces to utilize British military bases for defensive strikes related to the conflict involving Iran.
