IBADAN, Nigeria — Pupils and teachers abducted from Ahoro Esinle School in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State arrived at the Oyo State Secretariat in Ibadan on Monday, July 13, 2026, following their formal handover by the Federal Government of Nigeria to state officials.
Golden Info reports that the transfer follows a Friday announcement by federal authorities confirming that security agencies had secured the release of the group after 56 days in captivity. Video footage published by Oyo Affairs showed the individuals disembarking from a van and entering the secretariat premises under a heavy security escort provided by military personnel.
The victims were taken by armed individuals from the educational facility on May 15, 2026.
Prior to the Monday handover, the rescued individuals received medical treatment and psychosocial support at the Military Hospital in Ibadan. The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, visited the group at the medical facility on Saturday.
The gubernatorial candidate for the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, also visited the recovering individuals at the hospital.
