ABUJA, Nigeria — Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu, directed the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission to investigate the activities of a purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council on Tuesday, July 7, 2026.
The directive was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the Nigerian President, Bayo Onanuga. The statement noted that the anti-graft agency must conclude its investigation and submit a comprehensive report within 30 days.
Golden Info reports that President Bola Tinubu ordered the probe after the Federal Government of Nigeria discovered that the council was entirely fictitious. The statement read: “The directive follows the discovery of the fictitious PFIPC, which was never established by the Federal Government of Nigeria and has no basis in any law, presidential instrument, executive approval, or other lawful act of Government.”
The administration alleged that an individual named Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew falsely presented himself as the Director-General of the council and claimed to be a presidential appointee. The Presidency stated that the probe will examine “the forged appointment letters and other official government documents; the use of a false claim of presidential appointment to seek or obtain official recognition and diplomatic support, including visa facilitation; and the opening of multiple bank accounts in the names of purported government agencies using allegedly forged documents.”
The inquiry will also look into the provenance of false official documents, the operation of related bank accounts, and the role of any public officer or financial institution that may have facilitated the scheme. Bola Tinubu instructed all ministries, departments, and agencies of the Federal Government of Nigeria to provide the commission with all required assistance and directed “that all persons found culpable be treated strictly in accordance with applicable law.”
