ABUJA, Nigeria — Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, harvested fresh vegetables from her residential garden at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday, July 6, 2026, to reiterate her advocacy for domestic farming.
The Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) reported on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, that the First Lady conducted the harvest during a routine visit to the agricultural plot. Golden Info reports that Senator Oluremi Tinubu established the vegetable garden under the Every Home A Garden initiative.
The harvest yielded agricultural produce including spinach, waterleaf, and fluted pumpkin. The First Lady distributed a portion of the harvested vegetables to members of her staff at the villa.
The vegetable garden was initially unveiled in July 2024 under the Renewed Hope Initiative to encourage household farming amid rising food prices. The program commenced alongside the Every Home A Garden competition, which targeted women and families across Nigeria to cultivate domestic plots.
At the launch of the initiative, it was stated that the garden was intended to demonstrate that small household spaces could be used to grow nutritious food while reducing the cost of feeding. The agricultural plot initially featured crops such as spinach, waterleaf, bitter leaf, scent leaf, ewedu, okra, and lemongrass, and has remained operational since its establishment.
