The statement cited Section 11 of the 1947 United Nations–United States Agreement, which mandates that United States federal, state, and local authorities refrain from imposing transit impediments on representatives of member states, their families, United Nations officials, specialized agencies, and invited official personnel traveling to and from the United Nations headquarters district.
The clarification follows an ongoing civil Freedom of Information Act lawsuit in Washington, DC, filed by American transparency activist Aaron Greenspan regarding records disclosure, which the Presidency addressed on September 3, 2026, stating the case involves no criminal charges or findings of wrongdoing against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
