ABUJA, Nigeria — The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board released the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination results for candidates below the prescribed admission age on Saturday, September 5, 2026.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Nigeria’s Acting Director of Public Affairs and Protocols for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Fabian Benjamin, defined an underage candidate as any applicant who will be below 16 years of age by September 30, 2026. Golden Info reports that Nigeria’s Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board released the results to enable candidates, parents, and guardians to assess performance.
The board stated that viewing the results does not qualify candidates for admission or official purposes, except for those who meet conditions for exceptional admission. To qualify for exceptional admission consideration, underage applicants must demonstrate academic ability through several stages of assessment and verification.
Requirements for exceptional admission include a minimum UTME score of 320 and at least 80 per cent in relevant subjects on the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination. Candidates must also satisfy institutional Post-UTME requirements and undergo a final assessment by experts.
The admission process for exceptional underage candidates remains ongoing, with verification stages pending. Candidates awaiting results from the National Examinations Council will be allowed to present them for verification before the final assessment.
The board stated it will announce the date for the final assessment stage once the National Examinations Council releases its examination results. The examination body warned parents, guardians, and candidates against individuals attempting to offer admission outside the approved procedure.
