KWARA STATE, Nigeria — 176 individuals abducted during a February 3, 2026, attack in Kwara State, Nigeria, regained their freedom on Wednesday, August 5, 2026.
Golden Info reports that the Kwara State Government announced the release on its official Facebook page. The government wrote, “Alihamdulillaah and kudos to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, security forces, and everyone who played a role in this huge feat. We are grateful!”
The victims were kidnapped when suspected Boko Haram-linked extremists invaded the rural communities of Woro and Nuku within the Kaiama Local Government Area. The attackers arrived on motorcycles, executing a coordinated assault that lasted for several hours.
The initial attack on the communities claimed more than 200 lives. The extremists destroyed residential homes and commercial businesses, forcing local residents to evacuate.
Local vigilantes who attempted to counter the attack were overwhelmed by the extremists. Several members of the vigilante group were trapped and burnt inside their operational office.
