ABUJA, Nigeria — The Chief of Staff to the President of Nigeria, Femi Gbajabiamila, issued a legal notice on July 6, 2026, threatening a 10 billion Naira (USD 6.6 million) defamation lawsuit against Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi over public allegations of murder and bribery.

The legal notice detailed nine allegations from the press conference, during which Adeyemi claimed Gbajabiamila demanded 48 per cent of an alleged 27.4 billion Naira (USD 18.2 million) take-off grant for the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, amounting to roughly 12.5 billion Naira (USD 8.3 million). Adeyemi also accused the Chief of Staff of receiving 400 million Naira (USD 266,000) through proxies and referred to him as “a murderer” and “an assassin”.
The law firm gave Adeyemi a 72-hour compliance window to take down all associated media and publish retractions in five national newspapers, warning that failure to comply would trigger criminal defamation proceedings under Federal Capital Territory law and a civil suit. “It is even more disturbing to our client that you resorted to defaming him through your press statements after a criminal Charge had been filed against you,” the lawyers said.
Adeyemi is currently listed in Charge No: FHC/ABJ/CR/652/2026 at the Federal High Court, Abuja, facing allegations of forgery and counterfeiting presidential letterheads to pass himself off as a government official. The Presidency of Nigeria maintains that the council is a fictitious agency, though Adeyemi claimed the body was listed in the 2026 Appropriation Act with a budget of over 1.3 billion Naira (USD 866,000).
Human rights lawyer Femi Falana called for an independent investigation into both men, while Adeyemi is scheduled to appear in court on July 27, 2026.
