ABEOKUTA, Nigeria — A magistrate court in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Monday, ordered the remand of three suspects for 60 days in connection with the murder of a retired broadcaster and her security guard.
Golden Info reports that Chief Magistrate O.T Odubanjo of Court 3 granted an ex parte application filed by the Nigeria Police Force to hold the suspects at the Oba Correctional Centre pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution.
The suspects, identified as Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, 22, Shakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36, are accused of killing Kitan Oyesiku, a former employee of Ogun State Television, and her guard, Pelumi Adetayo.
AS Abiodun, Legal Officer for the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran, presented a 24-paragraph affidavit supported by 17 exhibits and a written address. The court adjourned the matter to September 10, 2026.
“The suspects have been remanded for 60 days on court order pending the legal advice from the DPP for the continuation of the case,” said Oluseyi Babaseyi, Deputy Superintendent of Police and Public Relations Officer.
Bode Ojajuni, the Commissioner of Police, stated that investigators arrested Philip, the prime suspect, on June 24 at a construction site in Ibara. Philip allegedly confessed to coordinating the attack because of grievances he had with Oyesiku while working as her security guard.
Police recovered the victim’s stolen Lexus RX330 vehicle in the Onikolobo area. Additional exhibits retrieved from locations linked to the suspects include a broken hammer, a cutlass, a plank, and a black pen.
