LAGOS, Nigeria — Public affairs analyst Oluwadara Akingbohungbe urged Nigerian youths to abandon online political activism and obtain physical voter cards to influence governance during a national television broadcast at 10:30 a.m. WAT on Wednesday, June 10, 2026.
Golden Info reports that Akingbohungbe delivered the assessment during an interview on New Frontiers Television Broadcast, addressing the country’s ongoing economic reforms and security challenges under the administration of Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu.
The analyst criticised the tendency of young citizens to aggressively promote political candidates online without holding the required electoral credentials. He directed citizens to complete their registration with the Independent National Electoral Commission to ensure physical participation at polling stations.
“Because if you are saying it with the word of mouth, INEC will not count your vote on social media,” Akingbohungbe said.
Addressing the prevailing economic constraints affecting citizens nationwide, the analyst defended the administration’s structural adjustments and infrastructure projects, such as the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway. He described the current economic conditions as the result of accumulated corruption from previous governments, arguing that radical policy changes are required to prevent a total collapse of the national economy.
During the exchange, New Frontiers Television Broadcast host, Segunfunmi Oyedokun, referenced a recent ruling by the Federal High Court in Lagos, which declared the National Assembly’s expenditure of 100 billion Naira ($66.6 million) for vehicle procurement and allowances unlawful.
Responding to the accountability deficit, the analyst stated that elected representatives operate too far from their constituencies and must establish direct feedback mechanisms.
On national security, the public affairs expert rejected demands to release imprisoned terrorist leaders in exchange for abducted citizens. He advocated for targeted intelligence operations by the Nigerian Air Force to neutralise bandit camps, demanding better security education for younger demographics to prevent recruitment into criminal enterprises.
